First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Celebrates Shettima at 60, Hails His Service to Nigeria

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu congratulates Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, celebrating his years of public service and praying for continued health, peace, joy and happiness as he marks the milestone.


First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has congratulated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, praising his strength, loyalty, commitment and dedication to national service.

In a birthday message marking the milestone on Wednesday, Mrs Tinubu joined Shettima’s wife, Hajia Nana Shettima, his family, friends and well-wishers in celebrating his 60th birthday.

“60 Hearty Cheers to Your Excellency,” the First Lady said in her message.

She described Shettima’s service as Vice President as one characterised by “strength, loyalty, commitment and love for country,” commending his contribution to the administration and his years of public service.

The First Lady also acknowledged Shettima’s career before his emergence as Vice President, highlighting his experience in banking and his service in both the executive and legislative arms of government.

Shettima’s Public Service Journey

Born on September 2, 1966, in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shettima began his professional career in banking before entering public service.

He served as Governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019 and subsequently represented Borno Central in the Senate from 2019 until his election as Vice President in 2023.

Shettima became Vice President on May 29, 2023, after being elected alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

His political career has therefore spanned the banking sector, state administration, the National Assembly and the highest levels of the Federal Government.

Tinubu Also Celebrates Vice President

The First Lady’s message comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to his deputy ahead of the milestone.

Tinubu described Shettima as his “brother and partner,” while praising him as a trusted ally, valued colleague and patriot committed to Nigeria’s progress and unity.

The President also highlighted Shettima’s role in the administration, including his contribution to economic policy coordination through the National Economic Council.

Shettima Requests Low-Key Birthday

Despite the significance of the milestone, Shettima had earlier asked friends, associates and well-wishers to avoid elaborate public celebrations in his honour.

In a statement issued by his media aide, the Vice President appealed against congratulatory advertisements, public birthday gatherings and celebratory messages across print, broadcast and digital platforms.

He said the occasion should be marked with restraint, with public attention remaining focused on national development rather than personal celebrations.

The decision has given the 60th birthday a notably subdued character, despite the senior political position Shettima occupies and the significance of reaching the milestone while serving as Nigeria’s Vice President.

First Lady Offers Prayers for Shettima

In her birthday message, Mrs Tinubu also offered prayers for the Vice President as he enters his seventh decade.

“As you attain this milestone, I pray Almighty Allah continues to bless you with divine health, peace, joy and happiness,” she said.

She concluded by wishing Shettima a happy birthday and continued blessings in the years ahead.

A Milestone in Public Service

Shettima’s 60th birthday comes after decades of professional and public service, from his early career in banking to his tenure as Borno State governor, service in the Senate and his current role as Vice President.

Oyo Schools to Resume July 6 as Government Revises Academic Calendar After NUT Strike

The Oyo State Government has announced that public primary and secondary schools across the state will resume academic activities on Monday, July 6, 2026, following the suspension of the month-long strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers.  The announcement was co ntained in a circular issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which also unveiled a revised academic calendar for the 2025/2026 school session. The circular, signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs. B. T.
