Police Arrest Asaba Content Creator ‘Odogwu of Asaba’ Over Alleged Rape, Death of 20-Year-Old Woman

The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular Asaba-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as "Odogwu of Asaba," in connection with allegations of rape involving a 20-year-old woman who later died after an apparent suicide attempt.

The arrest followed a petition submitted to the police, alleging that the young woman was invited to Asaba under the promise of receiving professional training in content creation through a programme reportedly advertised on the suspect's social media platforms. Police have stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that all allegations will be thoroughly examined before any legal conclusions are reached.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after allegedly accepting an invitation from the content creator, who had reportedly offered to mentor aspiring digital creators.

Investigators allege that upon her arrival, she was lodged in a hotel by the suspect, where she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted.

Police said the woman later returned to her family in a distressed emotional state and recounted the events to her parents. The allegations subsequently formed the basis of a formal petition submitted to the Delta State Police Command.

Following receipt of the petition, Commissioner of Police CP Yemi Oyeniyi directed the Area Command in Effurun to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The operation led to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as "Odogwu of Asaba."

The police disclosed that before her death, the young woman recorded a video in which she reportedly narrated her experience and described the emotional and psychological trauma she allegedly suffered following the incident.

According to investigators, she later ingested a toxic substance in what authorities believe was an apparent suicide attempt.

Despite efforts to save her life, she was later confirmed dead.

Police have not stated whether a medical examination or forensic analysis has established the precise cause of death, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, said detectives acted promptly on the Commissioner's directive.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect has been interrogated and has made statements that investigators consider relevant to the ongoing investigation.

Edafe added that detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses in an effort to establish the complete facts surrounding the case.

The police have not yet announced whether formal criminal charges have been filed against the suspect.

The Delta State Police Command has assured the deceased's family and members of the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally, transparently and without bias.
