Presidency Chief of Staff Moves to Court as Fake Agency Controversy Deepens

Nigeria's political landscape has taken another dramatic turn after Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, threatened legal action against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to corruption, abuse of office, bribery, and other serious crimes.

According to a legal notice issued on behalf of Gbajabiamila, the Presidency official is seeking N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, insisting that the allegations made during a recent press conference are false, malicious, and intended to damage his reputation.

The latest development further intensifies the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an entity that has become the center of a growing national debate over fraud, impersonation, and accountability.

In a letter dated July 6, 2026, Gbajabiamila's lawyers outlined a series of allegations they described as completely unfounded.

The legal representatives argued that Adeyemi's public statements portrayed the Chief of Staff as corrupt, dishonest, incompetent, and involved in criminal conduct without presenting credible evidence to support such claims.

Among the accusations reportedly made during the press conference were claims that Gbajabiamila demanded nearly half of an alleged government take-off grant linked to the PFIPC, received hundreds of millions of naira through intermediaries, abused his official position, interfered in government processes, and participated in efforts to conceal wrongdoing.

The legal team categorically denied every allegation, maintaining that the statements were defamatory and capable of seriously damaging their client's personal and professional reputation.

Beyond the financial claim, the lawyers have given Adeyemi 72 hours to meet several conditions aimed at resolving the dispute without litigation.

The demands include an immediate cessation of any further publication or repetition of the allegations, removal of the disputed press conference and related materials from all digital platforms under his control, and the publication of a full retraction accompanied by an unreserved public apology.

According to the legal notice, the apology should receive the same level of publicity as the original allegations. It is also expected to appear in at least five national newspapers and across every social media platform used to circulate the claims.

The legal representatives further requested a written undertaking assuring that no similar statements would be made against Gbajabiamila in the future.

Failure to comply within the specified deadline, they warned, would leave their client with no alternative but to commence both civil and criminal proceedings.

If negotiations fail, Gbajabiamila's legal team says it intends to pursue multiple legal remedies.

These include filing a criminal complaint for alleged criminal defamation under the applicable laws governing the Federal Capital Territory, as well as instituting a civil action seeking N10 billion in damages.

The lawyers also indicated they would request a perpetual injunction preventing any further publication of similar allegations and seek a mandatory court order compelling Adeyemi to publicly retract the statements.

Interestingly, the legal notice states that any damages awarded through the lawsuit would be donated to charitable causes selected by the Chief of Staff.

The legal dispute stems from a press conference held by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi on June 25, during which he made several allegations involving senior government officials.

Adeyemi claimed that Gbajabiamila sought a substantial share of funds allegedly intended for the take-off of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
